| Current Locomotive Roster - 7 units
Number History GP38-2 (4) -On lease from GATX GMTX 2635 ex-CSX 1988 / CR 7923 / PC 7923 *First unit to wear MQT logo GMTX 2648 ex-LLPX 2031 / CSX 1966 / CR 7727 / PC 7727 GMTX 2652 ex-LLPX 2045 / CSX 1981 / CR 7907 / PC 7907 GMTX 2676 ex-CSX 1945 / CR 7671 / PC 7671 / PC 2011 SD40-2 (3) -On long-term lease from Great Lakes Leasing GLLX 3001 ex-CP 5595 GLLX 3002 ex-CP 5638 GLLX 3003 ex-CP 5803 Roster Notes GLLX SD40-2s The GLLX SD40-2s came to Marquette in early November 2006. All three units are of CP Rail heritage. These units are to replace the temporary Ohio Central units. Upon delivery, GLLX 3001 was still in CP Dual Flags scheme, and needed a little bit of work, while GLLX 3002 and 3003 were in grey primer and were in operating condition. GMTX GP38-2s GMTX is the former LLPX locomotive pool. LLPX was a partnership between EMD and Locomotive Leasing Partners, but GATX recently bought EMD's share of LLP and consilidated LLP into GATX. GMTX are GATX's reporting marks for the former LLPX power. GATX is rebuilding the former LLPX GP38s that came mostly from CSX (a large portion of which were ex-CR). Marquette's GMTX GP38-2's are the outcome. 2635 is the only one of the four GMTX units that has been totally repainted into the blue/white GATX scheme, similar to LLPX/EMD (and also wears the Marquette logo). 2648, 2652 and 2676 are in CR paint with CR markings painted over and the GATX logo applied. 2653 wore CSX YN1 with CSX identity painted over and a black GMTX patch on the cab side with no GATX logo. 2676 is the replacement to 2653, coming to MQT in mid-September 2006. Also of note, GMTX 2652 and 2676 are former CR/PC dual control stnad locomotive which has a slightly extended cab to accomodate the extra control stand. The unit no longer has the second control stand. Former Units Ohio Central SD40-2s OHCR 4223 and 9934 came to MQT after being leased to Iowa Interstate. Both units are of UP/MP heritage and were still in their ratty UP paint with all UP identity painted over (except the numbers). Neither unit was equipped with dynamic brakes. Between 1992 and 2001, UP 4223 was converted to a non-leading "B" unit and was renumbered B4223. GMTX 2653 This unit arrived with the other 3 GMTX GP38-2 rebuilds. It is former CSX 2141 and is still in patched CSX YN1m paint. This unit was not sent to Marquette before being fully rebuilt and subsequently was returned to GATX/LLPX in August 2006 due to problems. NREX GP50s The 6 GP50's Marquette had on lease were from National Railway Equippment were fill-in locomotives until Marquette's 'real' power arrived. NRE prepared 7 GP50's from the same fleet the loaners are from; these units were to be outright owned by Marquette and would wear the railroads paint scheme, however these units ceased to be mechanically sound and were sent packing. The GP50's were all of Chicago & Northwestern heritage. The remaining 47 units of the original 1980 CNW order for 50 GP50's went to FURX in 2002 when they were retired from UP's roster. These were the first GP50's built by EMD between May and September 1980. All were still in their UP paint; some have the UP identity painted out, while others just have a line through the name. FGLK 1702 1702 was built in March 1959 as Milwuakee Road 286. It came onto Marquette in late December 2005. FURX 3018 Marquette found themselves short of power when most of the fleet of GP50's was down with electrical problems. Initially, Marquette leased two CSX AC4400CW's (#'s 465 & 517). These were replaced on December 8th, 2005 with the 3018 and MPEX 5000. FURX 3018 was built in 1971 as Penn Central's 6264 (an SD40). Is served throughout the Conrail years wearing the same number. It was eventually renumbered 0814 in the early 1990's when Conrail began receiving CW40-8's numbered in the 6200-series. It was retired in October 1995 and went to HLCX as their number 5031. It was later picked up by Dakota Minnesota & Eastern and served as their 6066 for a short stint. After being removed from the DME roster, the Alstom group acquired it and remanufactured it to an SD40-2 for FURX's lease fleet. 3018, and it's fleetmates 3000-3048, were leased long-term to CSX in 1999. FURX 3018 was returned to CSX December 29th, 2005 for FRA inspection in Cumberland, MD MPEX 5000 As with FURX 3018, MPEX 5000 was loaned to Marquette by CSX when Marquette found themselves short of power while most of the fleet of GP50's was down with electrical problems. Initially, Marquette leased two CSX AC4400CW's (#'s 465 & 517). These were replaced on December 8th, 2005 with the these two lease units. MPEX 5000 was built in 1966 as ATSF SD45 1801 and later renumbered 5431, which was wrecked and rebuilt into a cabless B unit and renumbered 5501. It was later rebuilt by Morrison-Knudeson into a cab unit once again, using a left-over cab from their MK5000C program and keeping it's original SD45 carbody, giving it a unique appearance. It served on Dakota Minnesota & Eastern as their number 5000 before it was returned to M-K and put in their Motive Power lease fleet and leased to CSX. MPEX 5000 was returned to CSX in January 2006 for it's 92-day inspection. CSX 465 & CSX 517 At start-up, Marquette found themselves short of power when most of the fleet of 6 NREX GP50's was down with electrical problems. Initially, Marquette leased these two CSX AC4400CW's. These were replaced on December 8th, 2005 with CSX lease units MPEX 5000 and FURX 3018 |
