No additional slug information at this time. Other News CSX's ES44AC GEVO's are actually classed as ES44AH, just as the AC4400CW's (495-599, 5101-5122 are CW44AH) denoting their heavier weight (ballast). Meanwhile, these units' DC counterparts (CSX 5200-5501) will be cycled through GE at Erie to get a software upgrade which takes 25 days per unit. GP39 4291, one of 3 GP39's without a yard slug, was tagged "HHR ASAP", whether this is good or bad has yet TBD. It will most likely either be mated to a slug (1025?) or retired. CSX has made it apparent they will be retiring SD40-2 upon major failures, or even minor failures in some cases. SD50 to SD50-2 conversions include 8563, while GP40-2 to GP38-2S conversions include 4441, 6011 and 6115. |

| MPU 36 March 25, 2008 A quick update as the mother slug program continues and the details become available. Slugs through 2358 have been completed, while mother units through 6957. A complete list of histories is listed below: GP40-2 Mothers Road Slugs 6951 / ex-6351 2351 / ex-6605 (GP40 from deadline) 6952 / ex-6357 2352 / ex-9124 (RCPHE4 remote control drone, formerly GP40 6643) 6953 / ex-4433 2353 / ex-6639 (GP40 from deadline) 6954 / ex-6103 2354 / ex-9121 (RCPHE4 remote control drone, formerly GP40 6629) 6955 / ex-6365 2355 / ex-4280 (GP39 from deadline) 6956 / ex-4440 2356 / ex-4289 (GP39 from deadline) 6957 / ex-4443 2357 / ex-9720 (MofW GP40 from deadline, formerly 6792) Now onto the never-ending retirements. Consisting mostly of older GE's, but also a few surprises: Retirements B36-7: 5841, 5855, 5860, 5899, 5906, 5922 SD40-2: 8078, 8159 Storage B36-7: 5811, 5832, 5847 SD40-2: 8067, 8089, 8131, 8210, 8337, 8360, 8423, 8432, 8473, 8847 While most of these units could be waiting for a turn in the shop, 8337 and 8423 have been stored for quite some time now. Also of note, recently retired 8078 was previously in storage at Russell, KY. MPU 35 -February 5, 2008 It's been several months since I have updated, so bare with me as I try to cover all of what has occured. RETIREMENTS RCPHE4: 9119, 9120, 9121, 9122, 9124 RCPHG6: 9302 (wreck damage) B30-7: 5502, 5505, 5525, 5530, 5531, 5541, 5564, 5578, 5579, 5807(2) B36-7: 5827, 5831, 5835, 5836, 5858, 5905 GP39: 4285 SD40-2: 8802, 8816, 8861 SD40: TORC 997 Now we'll move onto other news-worthy items... *Since the last updated CSX has taken delivery of more new GEVO's. The newest batch are now classified as "ES44AH" and are numbered in the 700-800 series with orders to 820 nearly complete. *CSX has also taken delivery of a new genset switcher numbered 1300, classified as 3GS21B. *More recently, CSX has turned up a few new mother/slug sets! The first new mother/slugs sets in nearly a decade, since the 2331-2350 batch arrived in the late-90's. Although details are not available at this juncture, so far there are 3 new sets: GP40-2 Mothers 6951-6953 (ex-6351, 6357, 4433 respectivley) are mated to Road Mates 2351-2353, respectively. The road mate histories are included in the unknown details; however, several retired GP39/GP40 hulks (including 6605, 6639, 9121, 9124, 4280, 4289) were sent from Huntington, WV to Waycross, GA several months ago (the conversions are being done in Waycross). Also a possibility in the mix is retired CR GP38 7725. This unit has been onNS and CSX property since the CR acquisition, without being relettered or renumbered. The unit was stored in Cumberland, MD and then transfered to Waycross, with "Hold for slug conversion" stenciled on it. *A head-on collision occured in mid-December between a run-away welded rail-train and a stationary mixed freight train. Nobody was injured as the freight train's crew fled the train when they saw the run-away approaching. No fatalities goes only as far as crew members, as the units on the rail train will likely be write-offs. CSX 6473 and slug 2243 are mangled, while the single unit on the frieght, CW40-8 7847, although badly damaged, was still not as bad as the mother/slug set, and will likely be repaired. MPU 34 -August 12, 2007 Here is a list of the SD40-2s currently stored. At this writing, it is still not set in stone whether these units will be traded in for new units or are just being stored during a downturn in business. In past years, CSX has stored their SD50 fleet for several months during slow periods. When trading in power, CSX takes the units with the worst maintenance records, regardless of current status. In other words, they get rid of the units that have cost them the most money since built, even if they are currently 100%. This listonly 74 units on it, including retired 8126, 8257 and side-lined 8859. 8022, 28, 40, 45, 46, 52, 54, 55, 58, 59, 64, 70, 92, 93 8103, 06, 11, 26, 27, 29, 31, 51, 57, 59, 61, 99 8203, 05, 09, 11, 57 8328, 37, 76, 80 8409, 13, 23, 46, 48, 49, 52, 60, 62, 71, 72, 74, 78, 82, 85, 88 8805, 08, 09, 12, 16, 18, 20, 21, 28, 37, 56, 59, 61, 69, 70, 72, 74, 75, 76, 80, 81, 84, 85 SD70AC / SD80AC renumberings are coming along quickly, clearing the 700-800 series for new GE's. Renumbered so far are: SD70AC SD80AC Old-New# Old-New # 700-4500 800-4590 701-4501 802-4592 708-4508 804-4594 709-4509 806-4596 711-4511 807-4597 715-4515 809-4599 717-4517 810-4600 718-4518 812-4602 727-4527 731-4531 732-4532 737-4537 740-4540 743-4543 745-4545 748-4548 750-4550 756-4556 757-4557 758-4558 761-4561 767-4567 769-4569 774-4574 783-4583 MPU 33 -June 23, 2007 First off, the CW44AH redesignation is now complete; including for CW44AC's 495-599 and 5101-5122. With ES44DC's encroaching into B30-7 territory, CSX is making room in the 5500-series. With B30-7 5500 already retired, 5501 has been renumber 5807 (just below the B36-7 fleet). ES44DC's are now 5200-5501. Also to note while on the B30-7 topic, 5531 has been retired. Also being renumbered are the 700-series SD70AC's and 800-series SD80AC's. CSX 700-789 will be renumbered 4500-4589 and CSX 800-812 will renumbered 4590-4602. CSX will be trading in 75 SD40-2's towards an order of new units. At this time, there are no details as to which units will be traded, and whether the new order will come from GE or EMD. On top of the SD40-2's being traded, CSX is also placing additional SD40-2's into storage. This is the second set to be seperated, joining 6440/2283 - with 2283 being stored in Russell, KY for nearly 2 years now. CSX GP38-2 2610 was spotted in Stanley Yard a few weeks ago with its front steps and pilot gone. MPU 31 --January 3, 2007 Recent retirements include: B30-7: 5500, 5511, 5517, 5540 B36-7: 5820, 5830, 5848, 5862, 5871 CW44-9: 9011 (wrk) GP39: 4288 RCPHG4: 9247 SD38: 2456 SD40: 4601, 4606 CW44AC's reclassed to CW44AH: 497, 499, 506, 512, 518, 519, 523, 525, 526, 529, 530, 538, 540, 545, 548, 555, 570, 573, 575, 576, 577, 581, 582, 583, 584, 589, 590, 592, 595, 598, 5101, 5102, 5105, 5106, 5107, 5110, 5117, 5119, 5121. CW44AH's reclassed back to CW44AC: 502, 516, 558, 596. GP38-2S conversions include 6158 and 6362 SD50-2 conversions include: 8523, 8535, 8591, 8644, 8645, 8657, 8663, 8664. Of those, 8644 and 8645 were renumbered to their corresponding MofW series numbers - 2475 and 2476. 8673 was renumbered 2496, but was not converted to an SD50-2. MPU 30 --November 7, 2006 -CSX continues their downgrading programs; GP382S's are at 35 units, while SD50-2's are at 75. Also joining the downgrade group is a new class: SD382S. These are basically the same as the GP40-2 downgrade to GP382S, only this is SD40-2 downgrade to SD382S. The first two units to be done are yard engines 2443 and 2445. SD45-2 8973 has also been downgraded into an SD40-2. -Another new class of locomotive, although not a downgrade, is CW44AH. This is CSX's new designation for the "heavyweight" AC4400CW's. CSX's standard AC4400CW's weight 412,000 pounds, however the "heavyweights", or "magnums" weight 432,000. This extra weight comes from added frame steel and increases tractive effort. CSX also has ballasted AC6000CW's, SD70MAC's, SD80AC's and ES44DC's. The AC4400CW's that have been reclassed as CW44AH's include: 495,96,98,500-05,09,16,20-22,24,27,31-37,39,41-44,46-47,49-54,56-69,70-72,74,78-80,85-86,88,91,93-94,96,97,99,5103-04,08-09,11-16,18,20,22. MPU 29 --October 26, 2006 --UPDATE: Oct-31 The ex-NS B40-8 have been spotted on CSX in Cumberland, MD. NS 4803, NS 4812 and CSX 5968 were present on October 25th. This is evidence that these units will be numbered above CSX's exsisting B40-8's. The units will be 5962-5979, putting all ex-CR B40-8's under one roof and bringing CSX's B40-8 count to 50 units. Granted CSX renumbers the units in order, this is what the roster will look like: 5962 ex NS 4800 ex CR 5063 NS paint 5963 ex NS 4801 ex CR 5064 CR paint 5964 ex NS 4802 ex CR 5066 CR paint 5965 ex NS 4803 ex CR 5067 CR paint 5966 ex NS 4804 ex CR 5068 NS paint 5967 ex NS 4805 ex CR 5069 NS paint 5968 ex NS 4806 ex CR 5072 NS paint 5969 ex NS 4807 ex CR 5073 CR paint 5970 ex NS 4808 ex CR 5077 CR paint 5971 ex NS 4809 ex CR 5078 CR paint 5972 ex NS 4810 ex CR 5079 CR paint 5973 ex NS 4811 ex CR 5081 CR paint 5974 ex NS 4812 ex CR 5082 NS paint 5975 ex NS 4813 ex CR 5083 CR paint 5976 ex NS 4814 ex CR 5084 NS paint 5977 ex NS 4815 ex CR 5085 CR paint 5978 ex NS 4816 ex CR 5088 CR paint 5979 ex NS 4817 ex CR 5089 NS paint UPDATE: Oct-31 CSX 5968 was the first unit to be released from Cumberland, still wearing it's NS black paint, with logos painted out and CSX patch added. One of the unit's first stops was in Grand Rapids. Here's a photo of the unit: http://www.railroadfan.com/gallery/albums/userpics/10066/CSXT%205968%20Northbound%20as%20Part%20of%20Q392-27s%20Consist%20at%20Lilley%20Road%20-%20Plymouth_800x533.jpg MPU 28 --October 17, 2006 CSX has acquired 18 B40-8's. The units have been rumored to be number in the mid 5700's (5760's-5780's) but this makes no sence. I would expect to see them numbered on top of CSX's current fleet (5930-5961), making the 18 acquiree's 5962-5979. Where might these be coming from? Why, Norfolk Southern. All ex-Conrail. So, the CR-painted unit count will go up on CSX, and this will also add a new paint category, as CSX will be running around with patched NS units. These have all been gathered at Enola, PA. Also to be noted, NS is planning on dismissing their ex-CR GP15-1's in Jan-07. Possibly keeping 5 is the word. Apparently, this has nothing to do with CSX and the B40-8 acquisition. MPU 27 --August 6, 2006 -The latest YN3 update included 19 units from over the past 2 months and has taken 8 units off the Pre-YN2 list, including 6 Conrail painted units. -Ex-CR MT6 1018 has been reactivated after being retired since 2003. This unit is a replacement slug for 2445, the newest yard mother conversion. 2445 is the former 8195. 2443 was the next SD40-2 yard conversion that was due out, however, the 2443 and 2444 spots were skipped. The are going to be filled, as SD40-2 8188 is due to become 2443. -Since the April update, the SD50-2 conversions have really taken off. Of the 26 propsed slots for maintenance of way service in the 2474-2499 series; 2474, 77, 79, 80, 83, 85, 89, 93 and 99 have been filled by their corresponding number in the 8499, 8644-8659, 8668-8676. Other conversions include: 8511, 15, 24, 29, 31, 43, 45, 56, 60, 64, 70, 74, 83, 87, 92, 8600, 25, 36, 39, 40, 55. MPU 26 --April 4, 2006 -CSX 8653 (ex-CR 6736) has been completed as the second SD50-2 downgrade, joining CSX 8638, while 8669 has also been done. 8653 has been renumbered 2484 while 8669 has been renumbered 2492. Along with the aformention SD50's 8637-8659 going into maintenance of way service, SD50's 8499, 8668-8676 will also be joining them. For some reason, the 8660-8667 block was excluded. This allows the former CR units from 8644-8659 and 8668-8676 to fit perfectly in the 2475-2499 block (8653/2484, 8669/2492 match up perfectly), but what about 8499, 8637-8643? -CSX MP15AC 1156 and SD70MAC 775 have been repaired and repainted, after cab and fire damage, respectively. MPU 25 --March 28, 2006 -CSX has received their ex-Amtrak F40's from Ohio Central. The units are equipped with 2600 gallon fuel tanks and new air reservoirs, as are CSX's original F40's. The units will be stripped of paint, repaired and repainted. -CSX has received the first 18 GEVO's of their second order of 100 from GE, numbers 5300-5317. -SD40-2 8195 has been renumbered 2443 and mated with MT6 slug 1007. -SD50 8653 will be sent to Waycross, GA to be downgraded and renumbered. This is one of the SD50's now in MofW service. It will presumable be renumbered into the 4600-series on top of the current MofW/yard duty SD40's. -B30-7's 5565 and 5566 have ben retired. MPU 24 --March 12, 2006 CSX has pressed a portion of it's SD50 fleet into maintenance duty. The units affected are in the 8637-8659 block. This includes both original CSX and ex-CR units. These units replace the recently retired C30-7s (and lone C36-7). MPU 23 --March 2, 2006 CSX has received their F40s from Ohio Central. They have been numbered 9998-9999 as opposed to the prior word that they would be numbered 9990-9991, right underneath CSX's current F40's. CSX 1156 is being repaired from scratch, while AC4400CW 69 arrived in Huntington with front end damage. MPU 22 --February 4, 2006 Another large motive power update is here. We'll start off with smaller and move onto bigger news. 4401 was repainted after it received a cab enhancement including new sides, doors and windows. New wrecked units include 425 with heavy front end damage after hitting a loaded coal truck; and 1156 which suffers from cab damage. The cab has been smushed down and forward, all windows are broken. Here is the word on the recently retired C30-7's (and C36-7); CSX will be auctioning off the following units on Feb14 06: Running Locomotives 7016 C30-7 Waycross 7037 C30-7 Waycross 7039 C30-7 Waycross 7052 C30-7 Waycross 7054 C30-7 Waycross 7055 C30-7 Waycross 7059 C30-7 Waycross 7073 C30-7 Waycross 7088 C30-7 Waycross 7121 C30-7 Waycross 7140 C30-7 Waycross Mechanical Failures (Not Running) -- As is-Where is 7001 C30-7 Waycross 7013 C30-7 Waycross 7017 C30-7 Waycross 7018 C30-7 Waycross 7126 C36-7 Waycross 7130 C30-7 Waycross 7136 C30-7 Waycross Also under the above category are these units: 2403 SD20-2 Huntington 2460 SD38 Huntington 2464 SD38 Huntington 2465 SD38 Huntington 2466 SD38 Huntington 2467 SD38 Huntington 4610 SD40 Huntington 4611 SD40 Huntington 4615 SD40 Huntington Wrecked 4616 SD40 Huntington 8713 SD60 Huntington Wrecked 8972 SD45-2 Huntington Besides the recent GE retirements, the latter portion of this list eliminates 4 more non-Dash 2 EMD units; SD38's 2465, 2466 and SD40's 4611 and 4616. A photo of a some of the retired GE's can be seen HERE. The photo also includes wrecked/retired B36-7 5810. MPU 21 --January 20, 2006 -CSX's remaining original ex-SBD C30-7s will be joining the ex-CR 7100-series GE's. The 9 C30-7s have been sold and are to be in Waycross by the end of January. Remaining unit numbers are: 7016, 7037, 7039, 7052, 7054, 7055, 7059, 7073, 7088. -After losing it's mother (GP39 4280) to a main generator failure in late 2005, SWMT 1040 has been adopted by GP38-2 2507, which is being readied for the slug. -All GEVO (ES44DC) units still in primer, are due at GE by January 28 for paint. 13 total units, included are: 5212, 5213, 5217, 5221, 5224, 5227, 5228, 5231, 5232, 5233, 5234, 5243, 5246. MPU 20 --January 11, 2006 CSX's two 'new' F40PH's 9990 & 9991 are former Ohio Central 280 and 288, which are also their former Amtrak numbers. One unit will be used on the Track Geometry train, releasing GP40-2 6025 from it's lengthy job of pulling the train. The other unit will be used on the CSX Business train.
