GP40-2s 6400-6499, 6900-6943, 6947
-Rebuilt between 1988-1990 by VMV in Paducah, KY. 6466, only mother unit out shopped by Precision National
-Strangely, CSX 6466 was first to be out shopped in September of 1988. It was paired with 2200

-Units in the 6400-6483 block retained their current CSX paint when converted to mother units. Units that were in predecessor paint were repainted into CSX stealth paint when converted
-6484-6498, 6900-6901, 6903-6924, 6926-6935, 6937-6943 were repainted into YN2 paint when converted, while 6499 retained stealth paint, and 6902, 6925, 6936 and 6947 retained blue and grey paint.

-6417 formerly mated with 2283. 2283 suffered wreck damage and has been replaced by 2216
-6440 has no slug; it was formerly mated with 2216, which replaced 2283 accompanying 6417
-6910 and slug 2295 retired due to wreck damage in November 2003
-Originally, CSX planned to add ten more mothers to it's fleet. They would be numbered 6944-6953, coming from GP40-2s 6276, 6279, 6280, 6285, 6295, 6296, 6297, 6300, 6301, and 6318 respectively. However, the only one that was converted, before this order was called off, was GP40-2 6285, becoming 6947; thus, creating a gap between 6943 and 6947. The other 9 GP40-2s still retain their original CSX numbers today.
